CEBU, Philippines - Despite his shifting of alliance to the administration party, Talisay City Councilor Dennis Basillote is likely to keep his position as assistant majority leader in the opposition-dominated council at least until the year ends.
Majority floor leader Richard Francis Aznar of the Alayon Party said they have yet to discuss Basillote’s replacement. Basillote recently bolted out from Alayon to join with the Liberal Party.
Aznar also denied Basillote’s claim that there are other members of the majority bloc who are also joining the administration party. According to Aznar, the Alayon Party remains to be the majority in the council.
He said the party will discuss next year who will be Basillote’s replacement as assistant majority floor leader. Basillote is also likely to be stripped of his committee chairmanship.
Aside from his being the assistant majority leader, Basillote also chairs the committees on education and urban poor.—(FREEMAN)
