CEBU, Philippines - At least three barangays in Lapu-Lapu City experienced power outage for hours yesterday but the Mactan Electric Company said it was due to preventive maintenance.
In a text message to The Freeman, a resident of the city said the power outage started midnight the other day and lasted until 8 a.m. yesterday. Most of those affected are residents of Barangays Basak, Agus, and Marigondon.
“Nagsugod ang black out pagka alas-dose ug mibalik pagka alas-8 na sa buntag kagahapon,†the text message reads.
MECO confirmed the outage, but explained that it was due to a scheduled preventive maintenance. In fact, a MECO official said they have informed residents about the activity beforehand.
Early this year, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza met MECO officials owing to successive power outages, which became the subject of complaints from residents in the city. –/JMO (FREEMAN)
