CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Education will gather all public school principals in the city to a refresher course on child protection policy on June 14.
Yanissa Torres, 10, of the Mandaue City Central School sustained wounds on her knees after getting bumped by a car at around 3 p.m. Thursday.
DepEd Mandaue administrative officer Benjamin Tiongson said provisions in DepEd Order No. 40 series of 2012, or the Child Protection Policy, state that teachers can’t just impose tasks on students, especially if these would put students in danger, such as telling a child to go up the roof to clean it.
However, Tiongson withheld the name of the teacher who sent a student up a roof since an investigation is still in progress.
He said the teachers interests are governed and protected by the Magna Carta for public school teachers. (FREEMAN)
