Gullas to reopen Tabunok market

CEBU, Philippines - “Congressman Eduardo Gullas heeds the request of the vendors. The old Tabunok public market will reopen,” city information officer Arturo Bas yesterday said.

Bas said this will pave the way for vendors in the Lagtang Public Market to return to the old Tabunok public market.

Gullas, after meeting with close to 100 market vendors in barangay Lagtang yesterday afternoon at the Office of the Mayor, has requested the city engineering department to check the structure of the old market.

He will also check with the Commission on Elections whether the move is permissible under the Omnibus Election Code.

Last Sunday, the terminal at the old public market in barangay Tabunok, Talisay City was also reopened.

But Gullas clarified that politics has nothing to do with the reopening of the terminal.

He said a leader should listen to the people he leads instead of imposing his will on them.

Gullas denied that the lot of the old market in Tabunok was already sold.

He said that it was not sold by the city.

The congressman said when he passed by Tabunok on his way to Lagtang, he saw the heavy traffic in the area especially under the flyover where tricycles park.

He said it came to his mind to open again the terminal in the old public market of Tabunok to ease the traffic.

Last Thursday, Gullas met with presidents of the tricycle organizations and traysikads who requested him to reopen the terminal. (FREEMAN)
