Mandaue police gear up for Holy Week

Cebu, Philippines - Mandaue City Police Office Director P Sr./Supt Petronelli Baldebrin during a press conference yesterday said the police are ready for the observance of the Holy Week.

Baldebrin yesterday said 14 police assistance centers will be put up while K9 dogs will be deployed to piers and bus terminals Wednesday in view of the mass departure of people to their hometowns.

Police visibility will also be increased near churches. Baldebrin discourages people from wearing jewelry when going to church.

Starting Monday, the police will post stickers bearing police hotline numbers in jeepneys and jeepney stops.

Baldebrin said they hope to post 200 stickers by Monday.

He warned residents not to leave their houses without anyone looking after it as most break-ins happen when all the occupants are out, Baldebrin said.

Baldebrin also warned establishments to be vigilant at this time of the year when the so-called “Acetylene Gang” usually strikes.

He said that the police will soon meet with owners of business establishments such as pawnshops.  (FREEMAN)
