Lapu-Lapu to hold activities for women

CEBU, Philippines - Trade fairs, livelihood training, and a beauty pageant are just a few of the many activities lined up for women in Lapu-Lapu City as it celebrates Women’s Month.

The city government is bent on continuing providing women with livelihood training, Jimmy Glomar, officer in charge of the Lapu-Lapu City Livelihood Center, said.

Women will be taught how to make delicacies such a siopao, puto cheese, banana chips, pastilles, and empanada.

Others will be taught how to make detergent powder, dishwashing liquid, and urban gardening.

The training will run from March 13, 14, and 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  at the Lapu-Lapu City Sports Complex.

The city will also hold food and trade fairs which will be held on the same dates.

Expected to join 16,000 members of the Kababayen-an sa Opon Nagkahiusa Alang sa Kalambuan (Konka), an organization of women in Lapu-Lapu.

On March 16, the city will hold the Ms. Konka pageant at the Hoopsdome. These will be participated by 20 women, ages 30 and above.

Nica Bertulfo, LCLRC technical staff, said Mayor Paz Radaza and other city officials will watch the contest.

“This is a beauty and brain pageant,” she said.

Other activities include zumba, symposium on waste management, and urban gardening.

Creating livelihood groups among women is one of the thrusts of Mayor Radaza.

Only two of 30 the barangays do not have a livelihood group for women but are preparing in building one.  (FREEMAN)
