CEBU, Philippines - The tourist police assigned in Lapu-Lapu City are known to have contributed a lot to the campaign to promote Lapu-Lapu as a tourist destination in the Visayas.
Philippine National Police Chief, Director General Alan Purisima, who visited the city the other day was briefed on the accomplishments of the city police and the tourist police.
Lapu-Lapu is one of the cities in the Visayas that first introduced tourist police.
The tourists police are members of a police force that undergo training to protect tourists.
The Lapu-Lapu City council has allocated P643,000 for the purchase of communication equipment for the tourist police for surveillance purposes.
This amount was taken from Pagcor funds.
Earlier, the Lapu-Lapu City Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission assured the safety of visitors now that tourist policemen have been assigned in barangays where hotels and beach resorts are located. (FREEMAN)
