Talisay top cop assigns 2 policemen to villages

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay Association of Barangay Council president and barangay Dumlog captain Charles Basillote yesterday expressed gratitude to Superintendent Elmer Lim, the officer-in-charge of the Talisay City police, for designating policemen in the barangays.

Lim was invited by the ABC general assembly last week to discuss the partnership between the police and barangay officials in maintaining peace and order in the city.

Basillote said he is grateful to Lim for providing at least two policemen for the 15 barangays in the lowland including in the coastal barangays, which shall visit their respective assigned barangays every night.

Dubbed as the “Police sa Barangay,” policemen will be in the barangays from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. to carry out community-based activities such as dialogues, pulong-pulong, meetings, house-to-house visits, crime prevention, and safety awareness.

The earlier proposal was for the clustering of the 22 barangays but based on the data, Lim said most of the areas that need attention are in the lowland.

The deployed policemen are also tasked to identify peace and order issues and other public safety concerns such as prevalent crimes, drug problems, health issues, hazard/disaster prone areas aside from providing police assistance during emergencies and disasters as well as supervising and assisting the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams.

Basillote said the activities shall be conducted in coordination with barangay officials and other key stakeholders and support groups.

“The PNP programs and special projects geared towards police community relations are being pursued to increase police presence and encourage community participation,” Basillote said.  (FREEMAN)
