PCF celebrates 15th anniversary

CEBU, Philippines - The Philippine Cooperative Central Fund Federation (PCF) will celebrate its 15th anniversary today.

The PCF board has lined up 15 major activities in major areas in the country, leading to its 15th Annual General Assembly.

One of the 15 identified major activities is the Cooperative Enterprise Trade Fair and Business Clinic at the JCentre Mall in Mandaue City starting today up to Feb. 25.

The activity will have three parts, namely, gallery, trade fair, and business clinic.

The objective of these activities is to showcase the cooperative as an enterprise and partner in national building and increase the level of awareness of non-cooperative members of the benefits a member can avail of.

Today’s activity will be graced by the chairperson of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Hon. Manuel Santiagel and Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes .

PCF is a pool of funds from cooperatives in the Philippines for the purpose of building financial capacity in order to respond to the financing needs of cooperatives.

In 1978, four Cebu-based pioneering coops pooled P5,000 each in response to their credit needs at a time when cooperatives were considered high risk by the formal banking sector.

The Cebu CFI Community Coop, Cebu People’s Multi-Purpose Coop, Guadalupe Community Multi-purpose Coop and the Cordova multi-purpose Coop saw the need to set up a credit union among coops which is now the Philippine Cooperative Central Fund Federation.  (FREEMAN)
