Alayon wanted to attend LP rally

CEBU, Philippines - Members of the Alayon Party had wanted to attend the proclamation rally of the Liberal Party last Thursday at the Tabunok Sports Complex but did not pursue the idea because of the impression that President Benigno Aquino was not coming to Cebu on that day.

Congressional aspirant Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, the grandson of first district representative Eduardo Gullas, told reporters yesterday they were prepared to attend the rally but after hearing of the news the president did not arrive because he was in Dumaguete City, they presumed he was not attending the rally in Tabunok.

And besides, flights from Manila to Cebu were cancelled on that day.

The rally started at around 4:30 p.m. and the President arrived at 6:50 p.m.

Talisay City Councilor Romeo Villarante of LP said had Alayon members attended the rally, they would have been booed.

â€œI think Atty. Villarante is entitled to his opinion. But about the prospect of being booed, may pag miadto mi aron mahibawo mi kun boo-han ba unta mi,” Samsam Gullas said.

Samsam said Alayon’s aim to attend the LP rally was to show the party’s support to the president’s programs.

He said Alayon has three allies in the LP.

LP reportedly wanted to hold the rally at the old public market in Tabunok or at the Talisay City Sports Complex in barangay Poblacion but the administration party allegedly refused the request.

But Samsam Gullas said Congressman Gullas had offered to LP the use of the sports complex in the Poblacion and it was free during that day in case the rally would be held there.

But the LP allegedly refused the offer.

Talisay City Vice Mayor Alan Bucao last Tuesday told reporters that the sports complex in barangay Poblacion was ready in case the LP decided to hold its rally there.

The area is spacious specially the parking place.

Samsam Gullas said “Why do they put political color in everything that we do?” (FREEMAN)
