Talisay public schools urge parents to enroll kids early for SY 2013

CEBU, Philippines - This early, some public schools in Talisay City are already encouraging parents to enroll their children for school year 2013-2014.

Talisay City Councilor Dennis Basillote, chairman of the committee on education, said that January 26 has been declared as the Early Registration Day for School Year 2013-2014 in all public elementary and secondary schools to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and the objectives of the “Education for All” program.

ERD targets to reach all five-year- old and six-year old children to ensure their enrollment this school year in kinder and grade one.

The registration is also for out-of-school children, out-of-school youth and disadvantaged groups such as indigenous peoples, street children, and children and youth with difficulties.

Basillote said barangay officials have already coordinated with some schools for the complete list of school age children in their barangays as early as the first week of January.

Basillote said the early registration allows them to map out the number of incoming kinder, Grade 1 and Grade 7 pupils in preparation for the smooth opening in classes for the coming school year. (FREEMAN)
