CEBU, Philippines - Some eighty public school teachers in Mandaue City received a “milestone bonus” last week from the city government “as a token of appreciation” for serving the city in the last 25 years.
Each teacher received P10,000.
Mayor Jonas Cortes, assisted by city councilors and education officials handed the bonus during the culmination program of the Education Week and Christmas party held last week.
The mayor in his speech said the granting of bonuses is to compensate the teachers for their undying passion for their career.
The amount was taken from the local school board fund and approved through an ordinance authored by Councilor Demetrio Cortes, Jr., chairman of the committee on education.
Ordinance No. 12-2012-737 provides that the awarding of such bonus shall be made annually during the culmination activity of Teachers’ Day.
Clarissa Villaber, principal of Paknaan National High School, said that she was happy because their efforts have been recognized.
Villaber, who spoke in behalf of the other awardees, expressed her gratitude saying this will further inspire them to “train every child the way they should be.”
Each of the 1,750 public school teachers including non-teaching personnel who attended the event received grocery items. (FREEMAN)
