USC Golden Booters notch back-to-back wins

CEBU, Philippines — The defending champions University of San Carlos (USC) Golden Booters edged the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Kicking Jaguars, 2-1, for their second straight win in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 24 football tournament at the Cebu City Sports Center.

John Cyril Sinoy fired back-to-back goals just six minutes apart from each other at the 25th and 41st to vault the Carolinians to the solo lead in college division with a clean 2-0 slate.

Dylan Kane de la Fuente found the back of the net at the 57th but to no avail as the Kicking Jaguars stumbled for the second time in a row.

In the other collegiate duel, the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu Fighting Maroons secured their first victory at the expense of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Kicking Panthers,1-0.

John Zhrel Sala delivered the game-winner for UP Cebu at the 16th minute.

In high school play, reigning title-holder Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC)-Cebu Greywolves and their archrivals Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles fought to a 1-1 draw.

Don Bosco’s Ray Agustine Abuzo broke the ice of the match at the 48th minute but Adam Clinton Lee drilled in the equalizer for the Magis Eagles via penalty kick at the 54th.

In the other result, USJ-R’s junior soccer players blanked USC, 3-0, to barge into the win column.

Luis Vincent Fernandez scored at the 26th and 72nd minute sandwiching Cyrus Primar Ventura’s goal at the 62nd in the shutout.
