CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) will be holding a seminar for basketball coaches scheduled from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, September 7, at the function room of Cebu Coliseum.
It’s part of the series of activities by the CESAFI leading to the formal opening of its highly anticipated Season 24 slated on September 21.
It may just be a simple undertaking but it carries much weight for those involved, from the head coach down to the rest of the coaching staff of each team.
This as CESAFI commissioner Felix “Boy” O. Tiukinkoy, Jr. issued a warning that those who fail to attend the event will not be allowed to coach in their first three games of the season.
Tiukinhoy said they are doing this to instill discipline and values to coaches being the role models of their student-athletes.
“As leaders, coaches must set a good example because the players look up to them,” said Tiukinhoy.
“Those who are absent must present a valid reason why they should not be sanctioned,” Tiukinhoy added.
The four-hour seminar will be handled by Parker Yust of Student Mobilization Ministry (StuMo) and Atty. Baldomero “Merong” Estenzo.
Yust will talk about leadership, character, and faith that are very essential for coaches in guiding their teams.
Just recently, the league held a three-day Refresher Course for coaches and referees at the Cebu Sports Hub in Mandaue City owner by Walter Ong. — (FREEMAN)
