Consolacion set to stage first ever inter-collegiate basketball tourney

CEBU, Philippines — For the first time, the municipality of Consolacion will hold an inter-collegiate basketball tournament featuring six teams from the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) on September 7-12 at the Consolacion covered court.

Led by two-time CESAFI defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers,  the other  contenders are the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu Fighting Maroons, Benedicto College Cheetahs, and Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges (CRMC) Mustangs.

Divided into two groups of three, they will play a single round robin in the elimination.

The top two qualifiers will advance to the crossover semifinals, with the winners slugging it out for for the coveted title in a winner-take-all affair.

The champion will pocket P100,000, while the first runner-up will take home P50,000.

The six-day cage wars is set to spice up Consolacion s annual fiesta celebration in honor of their beloved patron San Narciso on October 29. 

It is fully supported by mayor Teresa  Nene  Alegado, vice mayor Rey Damole, councilors Alforque Ouano, Marilou Casul, Lalinka Yu, Fred Herrera, Leo Napuli, Ben Ermac, Brandon Cuizon, and Salome Palang, ABC President Wesley Alomiren, and SK Federation chairperson Shella Arela Carpina.

All games will be under the supervision of sports commissioner  Paul Alelu Flores and his deputies Lee Mhar Dahil and Agvin Jugan assisted by technical committee chief Stephen Ababon
