American basketball players visit The Freeman office

CEBU, Philippines — A group of basketball players from various part of the United States under the banner of Sirius Star Pilipinas visited The Freeman office on Wednesday, September 11.

Led by their Cebuano coach Albert Alocillo, the American cagers include Anthony Winningham, Aaron Castro, Jaylen Swan, Zjateek Conyers, Xanthanus Pierro, Tyler Neufeld, Jarell Cowell, Dan Ricard, London Cobbs, Devonne Mayrant, Jevon Williams, and Gerard Mantua.

They were warmly welcomed by Melandro Mendoza, the general manager of Cebu’s longest-running newspaper.

In a talk with The Freeman sportswriters and online staff, the players shared their experience competing in the highly successful Allied Network Solutions (ANS) 3x3 Basketball Tournament Season 2 over the weekend at the Sisters of Mary School-Boystown in Barangay Tungkop, Minglanilla.

They collectively said that they were impressed by the Filipinos love for basketball, their humility, and the strong fundamentals they displayed on the playing court.

The US ballers were joined by ANS executives Jay Fernandez, Aris Gil Prieto and Marvin Aller, who are looking forward to a better and bigger 3x3 event in the future.

ANS also bared its plans to hold a 4x4 or 5x5 cage wars in the future, aiming to create opportunities for grassroots players and discover new talents as well.
