CEBU, Philippines – The University of the Visayas, University of San Carlos and Cebu Eastern College barged into the finals of the Cebu Youth Basketball League Season 8 with big wins over the weekend at the Magis Eagles Arena of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in Canduman, Mandaue City.
In the Under 10 division semifinals, UV outscored Monterey School of Talisay, 53-40, while USC North toppled USC South, 48-14, to arrange a title showdown for the second straight year. Daniel Padilla led UV with 24 points, while Juliano Aragon added 13. Kyan Floyd Reyes led Monterey with 19.
In the Division 1 Under 15 semis, UV scored a 51-35 win over USC North as CEC stopped University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 69-61, to set up a championship clash. Osias Padilla led UV with 11 while King Balaga had 11 for USC. CEC was led by Ken Sanche’s 11. Kreig Tapic and Clyde Cortez had 11 each for USPF.
In Division 2 games, SHS-Ateneo 2 grabbed a seat in the Under 15 finals via a 94-63 win over USC North B. They will face Don Bosco-B, which nipped SHS-AdC 3, 59-57 in the other semis duel.
In the Under 18 age group, the SHS-Ateneo Passerelle team ousted PAREF Springdale, 67-57, while Salazar College of Sciences and Institute of Technology eliminated UV-Mandaue, 62-47.
All the seats in the finals are sealed with the championship of all age groups to be settled this week. The CYBL Season 8 is an age group developmental league with four age groups: Under 10, 12, 15 and 18. This conference drew 73 teams from Metro Cebu. (FREEMAN)
