TCC bets sizzle in PNG kickboxing

CEBU, Philippines - Team Cebu City kickboxers scooped five golds spiced up with five silver and four bronze medals in the Muay Thai event of the 2015 Philippine National Games-Visayas leg recently in San Jose, Antique.

A combination of amateur mixed martial arts fighters and kickboxers, who are all product of the Cebu City Sports Commission’s combat grassroots program, powered Team Cebu City to an impressive campaign in the PNG.

"I was contented with the result and proud of the team. They showed great skills even if most of them are first timers in Muay Thai," said head coach Mary Ann Durado.

Rhyle Lugo of the University of San Carlos led the golden assault in the junior combat division.

The other Team Cebu bets who contributed golds were Freska Tejam of Southwestern University in the girls class, Diosdado Booc, and Janred Calinao from the University of Cebu,  who topped both the combat and Wai Khru (dance) events.

Fil-Japanese Yugie Inaba of UC got a pair of silver medals in the juniors class, while Roel Rosauro, Julius Muana, and Roy Bajar contributed the rest of the silver medals.

The bronze medallists were UC’s Jedial Alvarez and Lymil Villacrusis, Aljun Pepito, and Michael Gabriel Tranquena of the University of the Visayas. — Lemuel P. Maglinte (FREEMAN)
