Boholanos rule Danao dragon boat race

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines- Boholano paddlers showed their might against Cebuanos with a 1-3 finish in the ‘Dragons at the Boardwalk’– Karansa Festival dragon boat race in Danao City yesterday.

The Bohol Paddlers Association's elite squad dominated the elimination round until the final battle.

Out of 10 competing teams in the open division, BPA-Elite showed what great teamwork, timing and technique can do to win the race.

 BPA-elite posted a minute and 33.90 seconds in the 300m final, way ahead of Cebu's Habagat-Team A with 1:39.90 clocking. BPA's master's squad placed third in 2:15.70.

Meanwhile,Barangay Looc on reigned supreme in the all-Danao division in 1:36.47. The Looc paddlers outsmarted early favorite Barangay Dunggoan by just some ticks of a second in their 1:36.73 as the latter landed third in 1:36.99 clocking.

Danao's hosting is considered to be the biggest in terms of number of entries so far since the introduction of the sport in the region. Danao City's administrator Oscar "Boying" Rodriguez Jr. was brilliant to involve the barangays even in such a limited time.   (FREEMAN)
