CEBU, Philippines - Team Mandaue City claimed the first two golds at the start of the 2015 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet yesterday played mainly at the E.S Binghay Memorial Sports Complex in Balamban, Cebu.
Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu’s Shanelle Demilys Siaysoyco won Mandaue’s first gold after dominating the secondary girls shotput event with a 10.30m best. The 15-year-old made her personal best via fifth throw improving his silver medal finish last year.
Siaysoyco hopes to continue sizzling on the field when she competes in discus throw tomorrow.
Cebu City Ninos' Jan Allyson Pajantoy and Kim Obuta ended with the silver and bronze with 9.62 and 9.56, respectively.
On the other hand, Mandaue City Central Elementary School’s Shen Camay won the elementary girls' shot put gold on her first attempt with 8.17m.
She nabbed the gold medal over Cebu Province's Love Mhiel Mabelo who posted 7.76m as Siquijor's Princess Nicole Biliran took away the bronze with 7.70m mark.
Host Cebu Province though managed to get a gold medal on the first day with Nicho Duane Maquiling winning the elementary boys' long jump event with 4.72m.Cebu City's Rex Amamanpang settled with silver with 4.67m and Bohol's Jeffrey Galagar settled for the bronze with 4.65m output.
In the secondary boy’s basketball event, defending champion Mandaue City powered by SHS-AdC opened their bid with a lopsided victory against Tanjay, 86-24. Cebu City also had an impressive start as they played mercilessly against Toledo City, 96-14.
In the football event, Mandaue City and Cebu City also won their respective assignment at the St.Francis Academy's multi-purpose building with Mandaue posting a 3-1 win against Guihulngan in the elementary boys' team event.
Cebu City defeated Carcar, 3-0 while Cebu Province defeated Dumaguete City, 3-0 and Tagbilaran outsmarting Talisay, 3-1.
In the secondary division, Cebu City posted a 3-0 win against Naga while Cebu Province and Talisay defeated Naga and Bayawan respectively while Tanjay silenced Bais and Bohol dumping Lapu-Lapu both with a 3-0 mark. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (FREEMAN)
