Alta Vista Fun Golf tees off today

CEBU, Philippines -  The Alta Vista Fun Golf 2014 tees off Saturday at the par-72 AVGCC course in Pardo, Cebu City.

This two-day, 18-hole, individual play-event is one of two major tournaments of the club every year.  The other is The View Invitational, which is a member-guest competition held every May.

More than 260 players have already signed up for the tournament, which uses the strokeplay format.  The lowest handicap for the period of October to December 2014 will be applied.

Each participant will be getting a Titleist single-canopy umbrella and a FootJoy Dryjoys cap.  All players are also allowed to bring one guest to the awards dinner on Sunday at the Alta Vista ballroom.

Hole-in-one prizes are a Foton pick-up, a Kia Picanto, a Club Car golf cart, a Sunriser motorcycle from Norkis, a set of Titleist irons from Dynamic Sports, a reverse osmosis machine and an atmospheric water generator from San Gabriel, and P50,000 from Empire Insurance.

These hole-in-one prizes will be assigned to specific holes for the event.

A Skygo motorcycle is at stake for an eagle on all par-4 holes.

In case more than one player will win a particular hole-in-one or the eagle prize, such will be equally shared.

Vicente ‘Inting’ Go, tournament chairman and club director, said that the club wants to give the tournament participants the best that the club has to offer.

“Everyone will win a door prize,” he said.  “We also have so many major raffle items as well as hole-in-one prizes.”

To make the tournament more fun, the committee also decided to make the par-2 hole No. 2 and No. 13 as the special holes for the event.  Players will be in for a surprise on these holes, said Go.

The club has also prepared several entertainment numbers for the awards ceremony, which starts at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Prizes at stake will be specially-made plaques for the overall lowest gross and lowest net as well as the top three for the three handicap categories for male members and the guest division.

There will also be prizes for the lowest gross and the top three players based on net scores for the seniors (55 to 69 years old) category as well as the top two for the ladies and the super seniors (70 years old and above) classes. (FREEMAN)
