Belicaol eyes Cebuana Lhuillier Tennis title

CEBU, Philippines - One handed junior netter John Paul Belicaol takes another shot of the title in the penultimate leg of the Cebuana Lhuillier Age-group Tennis Circuit today at CitiGreen.

Fresh from a once-in-lifetime experience of tossing a coin for the first match of the Manila leg of the International Premier Tennis League last week at the Mall of Asia Arena, Belicaol will surely play strong today after being inspired by international tennis stars.

Aside from Belicaol, another young player to look out for is Jan Godfrey Seno who has been to U.S for some training and competition.

A bunch of other Cebuano top netters are also set to see action should the weather cooperate today including the very young Aaron Kevin Tabura, grandson of coach coach Fritz Tabura, Shyne Villareal, Zethley Mae Alferez and Christopher Encarnacion.

Among the visiting players are Rupert Tortal for the 10-under, Marc Pradel and Clyde Bienes in the 18-under, Cagayan de Oro's Justin Yepis, Siquijor's Kenneth Banico and Zamboanga's Jose Maria Pague.

Aside from the games at CitiGreen, organizers are also scheduling games at Alta Vista Golf & Country Club in Pardo as the second venue in case all games cannot be accommodated at CitiGreen.

This is the 27th regional battle for this Philta-sanctioned event. Philta points will be given away to the top performers of each class.

After Cebu, the final battle of the year will be held on December 26 to 30 at Camp Aguinaldo Tennis Club in Quezon City.— Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (FREEMAN)
