CEBU, Philippines – The cast for the playoffs of the Alaska Basketball D-League 2014 is set with USC, UV and Sacred heart School-Ateneo de Cebu leading the way in the different age groups after the last round of elimination games over the weekend.
In the Under 10 division, USC and UV swept their respective groups for identical 5-0 records. USC faces Cebu Eastern College in the semifinals while UV goes up against surprise team Monterey School of Talisay in the other semis duel this weekend.
In the Under 12 division, USC topped the elimination round with a 6-0 record and will face fourth seed UV (2-4). Second seed Don Bosco (5-1) plays SHS-Ateneo de Cebu (4-2) in the other semifinal match-up.
In the Under 15 division, UV-B and SHS-AdC topped their groups with 5-0 slates. UV-B plays USC North (4-1), while SHS-AdC plays Ormoc (4-1) in the penultimate round.
The Under 17 division sees top seed USC B (5-0) playing fourth seed SHS-AdC (2-3). Second seeded UV plays third seed USC in the other semifinals.
In Division 2 games, UV-B, St. Benedict’s, Ormoc, Monterey, USC South-B and CIC-Mandaue all made it to the playoff for registering top two finishes in their respective groups of the Under 12 age group.
In the Under 15 Division 2, Don Bosco Liloan and Southwestern University topped their groups. Also making it to the semifinals were San Isidro Parish School and USJR-B.
In the Under 17 Division 2, making it to the playoffs were SCSIT, Minglanilla, UV-Mandaue, AE Sports Toledo and One on One.
Meanwhile, games of the Girls Under 17 division kicked off with Abellana National School nailing two wins. They stopped Minglanilla, 35-32 and Don Bosco Liloan (0-1), 50-21. Minglanilla is at 1-1 after beating Cebu International School (0-1), 31-8.
The Alaska Basketball D-League is held in partnership with the Cebu Youth Basketball League. It features 74 teams from Metro Cebu and Ormoc. (FREEMAN)
