The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Close to 300 athletes will showcase their skills in the Argao edition of the Cebu Parklane International Hotel-organized Hunat Sugbu Triathlon scheduled tomorrow.

The standard distance has attracted 114 entries and 86 in the sprint category.

The top contenders in the standard race are Emmanuel Commendador, last year’s sprint distance champion Kristianne Lim, Alvirg Busa and Jeffrey Codino.

Parklane’s top bet Alan Ting is considered a darkhorse for the overall supremacy.

Singapore-based Cebuano Jundeb Esquivel is also joining the race as part of his final preparations for the Ironman Malaysia in Langkawi next week.

In the distaff side, it’s going to be an exciting battle with the multi-titled Lorhiz Echavez-Lopez out to defend her crown against the returning Rochelle Tan and the fast-rising Cianyl Gonzalez.

In the sprint action, youngsters Ralph So, Issa Priagula and Aaliyah Ricci Mataragnon banner the elite list of participants.

Aside from the individual battle, there’s also a relay event in the standard distance with a total of 79 athletes enlisted.

This is the second time for Hunat Sugbu to have a triathlon race. The first one was held in Oslob last year. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (FREEMAN)
