CEBU, Philippines - Cebuana cue master Rubilen Amit and the lean but mean Team Cebu City-Dancesport came up with golden performances during the 2014 PSC-POC Philippine National Games in Manila.
Though already a world champion that earned her the "Athlete of the Year" award from the Sportswriters Association of Cebu, Amit still felt happy after she outlasted Iris Rañola to snatch gold in the women's 9-ball event. She also bagged a silver in the women's 10-ball competition won by Cheska Centeno.
In dancesport, Cebu's bets waltzed their way to a total of seven golds, two each coming from the tandem of Andrew Ysla and Kathlene Joy Diluvio, Zijane Troy and Zijana Tracy Villarta, and John Paul Mocorro and Therese Andre Quilaton.
Diluvio and Ysla won a pair of gilts in the standard and latin youth C, while the Villartas got theirs through the standard youth A and B. Mocorro and Quilaton topped the latin youth A and B.
Bert Kevin Diluvio and Jam Flores produced Cebu's seventh gold on the dancefloor via the latin adult C.
Mae Pabuaya and Romeo Jay Cialbo, on the other hand, got a silver via the standard adult C, while the tandem of Jeffrey Benarao and Mary Mae Canillo bagged the silver on the latin side.
Wilbert Aunzo and Pearl Marie Caneda grabbed part of the limelight with a bronze-medal finish in the premiere latin elite A action that consists of five dances.— (FREEMAN)
