CEBU, Philippines - Cebuanos Nino Surban and Clear Diongson both clinched gold in the respective sporting disciplines in the 2014 Philippine National Games yesterday.
Surban who had no plans of joining the event as he is preparing for the 2014 Asean Mountainbike Cup, won gold in the mountainbike event in Tagaytay, posting a time of 48 minutes and 51 seconds against March Aleonar (49:51) and Alvin Benosa (50:18).
John Rene Mier settled for the silver medal in the under-23 division of mountainbike event.
Mier with a time of 56:06, trailed Jigo Mendoza (54:44) who won the gold as Ed Mhel John Flores and Eric Apenar settled for bronze.
At the Philsports Complex in Pasig, University of Southern Philippines Foundation's (USPF) Diongson won the junior division's 10-kilometer walkathon.
Walkathon is not popular nor being done often here in Cebu, but Diongson managed to keep up with his opponents and won the gold.
In the other PNG events, the Cebu Lady Dragons ended with a silver medal finish in rugby football while Team Cebu got bronze in the underwater hockey.
Rovillo Lumantad also handed bronze to Team Cebu via anyo men’s individual single weapon for 17-under class. (FREEMAN)
