CEBU, Philippines - Despite the bad luck that struck the team on the eve of the race wherein they suffered an engine blow in one of their fastest scooters,Team Petronas/Mackyworx still make an impression during the third leg of the Regional Underbone Grand Prix (RUGP) Series last week at Kartways in Panglao, Bohol.
Rising from the ashes of that unfortunate indicent, Team Petronas/Mackyworx was blessed with a champion's trophy and first runner-up finish in the expert scooter open category.
Surprisingly, Vingie Coloma was crowned champion after crossing the chequered flag with the team's 160cc scooter against the higher-powered scooters of the other participants. Clifford Bacus came in second with a higher cc scooter. Both riders made the team so proud that they all shouted for joy at the finish line.
In the novice 4AT scooter division, the team placed second behind the efforts of Axel Teves. Bimbo Duranggo finished fourth, while Dean John Simangan placed fifth in the intermediate-expert 4AT scooter category.
In the Suzuki NEX 115 Grand Prix, the team copped the second and third place honors. The Teves brothers Axel and Enzo made the crowd go wild after showing a very exciting match.
"It was indeed a successful performance overall for the team," said team manager Macky Niño Macapaz. "The boys gave all their best in all categories that were being contested. Despite the unlucky breaks for the team, I still am very proud of the man behind all our engines Raceling Cañeda and of course to Petronas engine oils that the team is using."
"A lot of individuals also gave us a hand during the race such as Bobby Mencias of Suzuki BMR and Alfie Bolado of Full Throttle Cagayan. I just wanna thank them for all the help. We are now looking forward to the next race, which will be held in Cebu on August 24. We will be preparing an additional four motorcycles. We are doing all our best not to disappoint our growing fans out there," added Macapaz. (FREEMAN)
