Mendoza brothers, Lim-Dy tandem rule View golfest

CEBU, Philippines - Brothers Marvin and Marco Mendoza and the tandem of Wilky Lim and Mitchell Dy won the top honors in The View Invitational 2013, which ended Sunday at the par-72 Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, Cebu City.

The Mendoza brothers bagged the lowest gross honors in this annual member-guest tournament while Lim and Dy ran away with the lowest net honors.

Marvin fired rounds of 29 and 34 in the Stabelford Scoring System while his elder brother shot 32 and 35.  Their two-day aggregate was 130 points (63-67).

Lim scored identical rounds of 37 points using three-fourths of his lowest handicap for the March to May period while Dy made 45 and 43 that helped them score a total of 162 points.

The awards ceremony was held Sunday at the packed ballroom of AVGCC.

Division winners

The tandem of Alvin Suarez and Baltaire Balangauan bagged the title for Division A combining for rounds of 75 and 77 for an aggregate of 152 points.

Second place for the premiere handicap class went to Leo Saberon and Jojo Antonio with an aggregate of 150 points (71-79) winning the first runner-up honors via a better second day score over the third place tandem of Chandran Rama and Vic Arnoco, who also finished with 150 (76-74).

The Division B crown went to Jun Dayot and Elro de los Reyes, who combined for 158 points on rounds of 75 and 83.  Second place went to Henry Chu and Noel Abad with a total of 151 (74-77) winning via a better second day output over third placers Masahisa Kawakami and Masaru Matsuo with rounds of 75 and 76.

Edwin Go Lim and Peter Militante topped Division C with a total of 155 points on rounds of 75 and 80.  Second place went to Willy Go and Ranier Cruz with 148 points (73-75) followed by Richard Lim and Edward Uy with 143 (70-73).  Lim and Uy won via a better second day score over Francis Granados and Carlo Dimaala.

Seniors

The tandem of Vicente Go and Oscar Cornelio ran away with the lowest gross honors for this category shooting identical rounds of 64 points.  Go made 30 and 31 while Cornelio shot 34 and 33.

The lowest net plum for this group exclusive to teams with a minimum combined age of 120 years and with no player less than 55 years old went to Lino Dagus and Danny Orbe with 145 points on rounds of 75 and 70.

First runner-up honors went to Ramon Sebastian and Pal Lomondaya with 144 points on rounds of 71 and 73 while second runner-up was the tandem of Razy Razon and Boy Alegre with 142 (69-73).

Special recognition

Also recognized during the awards night were the champions of the 2013 Tournament of Aces, which is the club’s annual championship.

The winners this year are David Park for class A, Anton Pastoriza class B, Al Alcibar class C, Razy Razon Seniors, Boy Gonzalez Super Seniors, and Ericka Lim Ladies.

Ericka was also recognized for winning the Girls’ Class A title in the just-concluded national finals of the Philippine Junior Masters in Alabang.

Another Alta Vista bet who also won the national championship in that event was Junia Gabasa for Girls class C.

Sir Cross Abarintos was also awarded a Skygo motorcycle for scoring an eagle on the par-4 hole No. 4 during The View Invitational. (PR from www.fullpointcebu.com (FREEMAN)
