CEBU, Philippines - Two unrated Cebuano players in Changmai Necesario and Joshua Kinaadman fended off separate foes to set up a final showdown in the boys 18-under division of the 14th Tru-Flex National Age-group Tennis Championships at the Lapu-lapu City tennis courts.
Necesario barged into the gold medal match after dismissing fellow Cebuano Marc Norman Enriquez, while Kinaadman booked the remaining final ticket after booting out Emmanuel Vacalares, 6-2, 6-2.
In the boys 14-under, Bryan Otico stunned the top-seeded Jan Godfrey Seno, 6-0, 6-0.
Two other Cebu bets in Zethley Mae Alferez and Shyne Villareal also missed the final round in the girls 14-under.
Alferez fell prey at the hands of Sri Lankan Adithya Karunaratne, 6-2, 6-3, while Villareal bowed to Angela Cabaral, 6-2, 6-1.
Karunaratne is also set to play in the girls 12-under final versus Sultan Kudarat's Carlyn Bless Guarde.
The rest of the final matches pit Nio Tria Picache
vs. Hong Kong’s Tristan Kwok in the 12-under, Bryan Otico vs. Fabien Callaud in the 14-under, Alexandra Eala vs. Chu Kei Leung in the unisex 10-under, and Roxanne Mae Resma vs. Khim Iglupas in both the girls 16 and 18-under. (FREEMAN)
