Cops arrest man for murder try, gun

CEBU, Philippines — A man was arrested after he allegedly hacked his neighbor with a machete before attempting to shoot the victim with an unlicensed .45 cal. pistol that reportedly misfired during an incident in Sitio Datag 1, Barangay Buagsong, Cordova town, yesterday morning, July 6.

Police are preparing charges for attempted murder and violation of Republic Act No. 10591 against the suspect for illegal possession of firearms.

According to the Cordova Municipal Police Station, officers received a report at around 8:30 A.M. from the victim’s mother, who alleged that her son had been attacked by their neighbor with a bladed weapon.

She further said the suspect returned to his house, got a gun, and went back to the scene where he attempted to shoot the victim. However, the pistol reportedly misfired several times.

Responding officers found the victim with a wound on his back believed to have been caused by a bladed weapon. The victim later identified the alleged attacker, prompting police to proceed to the suspect’s residence.

Authorities recovered a machete and the pistol loaded with four live rounds during the operation.

Police said the suspect failed to present a valid firearm license or any legal authority to possess the weapon, resulting in his arrest. He was taken to the Cordova Municipal Police Station for documentation and custodial procedures. — (FREEMAN)
