CEBU, Philippines — Following the impact of super typhoon 'Pepito' in Eastern Visayas, the Visayas Command (VISCOM) has ramped up its efforts to support Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) operations in the region to ensure the safety and welfare of affected communities.
VISCOM said that eight HADR teams composed of 66 officers and enlisted personnel were mobilized to assist the preemptive evacuation efforts in Eastern Samar.
Several additional teams have also been deployed to facilitate the delivery of much-needed relief goods to the affected areas in Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, and Biliran.
VISCOM Commander Lieutenant General Fernando Reyeg emphasized the proactive measures being undertaken, saying that the deployment of their HADR teams reflect their commitment in supporting the local government units in their crucial disaster response efforts.
He said that it is their primary goal to ensure the safety and well-being of the people affected by the super typhoon.
“Through our preemptive evacuations and the prompt delivery of relief supplies, we strive to mitigate the impact of the super typhoon and provide the necessary aid for their immediate recovery,” he said.
Reyeg said that the coordinated efforts of VISCOM and the LGUs have facilitated the safe evacuation of hundreds of families from high-risk areas, ensuring their safety from the adverse effects of the super typhoon.
As of the other day, a total of 20,019 families in Eastern Visayas have been evacuated to designated evacuation centers.
Additionally, the timely delivery of relief items, including food, water, medical supplies, and other essentials, has significantly alleviated the immediate needs of those that were displaced.
“Our commitment to humanitarian assistance is unwavering. We understand the importance of swift and effective response in times of crisis. By working hand-in-hand with the LGUs, we are able to ensure that relief reaches those who need it the most. This collaborative effort underscores our dedication to both security and humanitarian support for our people in Eastern Visayas,” Reyeg added.
Reyeg further reaffirmed VISCOM's commitment, by saying that as the reliable Armed Forces in the Visayas, they remain committed to provide comprehensive support to the LGUs and the affected communities as continuous efforts will be made to ensure the immediate recovery of the people.
