Brgy. Apas students get aid from ACT-teachers Partylist

CEBU, Philippines — Around 300 underprivileged students in Barangay Apas, Cebu City received financial assistance from the ACT-Teachers Partylist for their educational needs.

Barangay Apas councilman Nico Versoza, who chairs the committee on education, said the 300 beneficiaries is just the first batch.

The first batch consists of some elementary, high school, senior high, and even college students.

Versoza assures that they are doing the extra mile to be able to connect to different agencies and government officials to seek help for the public-school students in their barangay.

The recipients, Versoza said, underwent careful scrutiny.

All successful applications in the barangay, through Versoza s desk, were sent out to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to check if there is no duplication of recipients.

Qualified college student-recipients got P1500 while the rest received P1,000.

Even with only that amount, Versoza believes it can already go a long way for these students.

Versoza thanked Rep. France Castro and former representative Antonio "Tonchi" Tinio for the assistance given to the students in their barangay.

A few months ago, Castro and Tinio personally went to Brgy. Apas to check the situation on the ground.

Aside from promising educational assistance, the barangay s health committee chaired by Terry Majait and co-chaired by Verzosa, also requested for hospitalization and medicine assistance for the barangay. -  ATO (CEBU NEWS)
