Drugs worth P34M seized in Bohol

CEBU, Philippines — At least five kilos of suspected  shabu worth P34 million were seized in a joint buy-bust operation conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-7), Naval Forces Central, Maritime Police, and Bohol Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit Monday evening, September 9, in Barangay Dampas, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

The successful operation also resulted in the arrest of the drug suspect, Robert M. Tiro, 42.

PDEA-7 spokesperson Leia Albiar said the operation stemmed from the information given to them by a confidential informant about the illegal drug operation of Tiro. According to Albiar, they were told that the suspect could dispose of two to three kilos of shabu every week.

She said a case build-up was conducted to verify the information against Tiro. The information was confirmed after a drug courier from Bohol was arrested in Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City on August 8, 2024.

Mark Niño Caliniahan, 26, was arrested during a buy-bust operation in Lapu-Lapu City resulting in the confiscation of two kilos of shabu. Authorities found out that Caliniahan allegedly got his supply from Tiro, who is also his uncle.

Albiar said Caliniahan was already charged for violation of Sections 5 and 11 of Article II of Republic Act 9165. Charges against Tiro is also expected to be filed today.

Meanwhile, a symbolic turnover of mobility assets marked a significant milestone for the Police Regional Office 7.

A total of 21 units of 150cc dirt bikes and three units of PNP light transport Toyota Innova vehicles were distributed to various police provincial offices, including stations in Bohol, Cebu, and Negros Oriental and the command group.

PRO-7 regional director B/Gen. Anthony Aberin said these new assets will amplify the police's ability to respond to emergencies, conduct patrols, and maintain a more visible presence in the community.

“These new mobility assets will significantly elevate our operational capabilities and fortify strategy readiness and effectiveness. With a solid police and community partnership, these police vehicles will be put to maximum use," said Aberin in a statement.

The PRO-7 chief also urged the recipients to handle and maintain these resources with utmost care, aligning with the police mandate and upholding high standards of performance and demeanor while on duty. — (FREEMAN)
