Three-way agreement on stall rent sought

Iris Hazel Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City acting Mayor Raymond Garcia has called for a tripartite agreement on the collection of rent at the Chibogan sa Kamagayan, warning that should there be irregularities he will be imposing sanctions.

During his press conference yesterday, he said the lot being occupied by the vendors is owned by the Cebu City Government and taxes must be paid to the government as what is rightfully due.

Currently, Garcia said that he tasked the city administrator to look into the P200 rental fee collected from the vendors since there is a private party involved in the collection, the Garbo Asenso Sumbanan Alyansa (GASA).

He said he will be calling on the GASA, the Cebu City Government representatives, and the vendors themselves to take part in the tripartite agreement.

“Kinahanglan nga naa g’yud tripartite agreement so that we will agree on the roles, the duties, and the obligations of each party especially when it comes to finances,” said Garcia.

He added that there should be guidelines indicating the amount due for the vendors, the Cebu City Government, and other financial obligations.

According to Garcia, the city administrator will look into the matter so that recommendations will be forwarded to him. But he added that he will have to talk to GASA saying that it is an organization that is looking after the welfare of the vendors.

“If there are any lapses, abuses, regarding this matter, I will really be firing people and I will be reappointing and revamping new members for GASA if ever I find that there any lapses,” he said.

Garcia also said that he will be looking at the justification of the P200 collection from the vendors to check if it’s fair for all parties. —/BRP (FREEMAN)
