Habal-habal office created

CEBU, Philippines — Habal-habal (motorcycle-for-hire) riders and their passengers will soon have an office to go at the Cebu City Hall for their concerns.

This, after the City Council approved during its regular session last Wednesday the creation of the  Motorcycle-for-Hire riders and Motorcycle Riders Coordinating and Welfare Office  (MRCWO).

The ordinance was authored by City Councilors Pastor  Jun  Alcover Jr., chairman of the committee on trade, commerce, and entrepreneurship; and City Councilor Rey Gealon, chairman of the committee on laws, ordinances, and styling.

The MRCWO is expected to  consolidate and organize various organizations, associations, or aggrupation of motorcycle-for-hire riders and motorcycle riders for efficient and orderly delivery of benefits or programs from the Cebu City Government.

The ordinance also mandated the setting aside of P2 million for the office to already start functioning, with a manpower complement of three personnel, namely: an executive director, an administrative officer, and an administrative assistant.

At the moment, no one had yet been appointed as executive director for the office and where it MRCWO would have its office.

Even as the office is yet to be established, the City s Public Information Office reported that motorcycle-for-hire drivers in the city have already been organized.

Those that have already registered have also been given reflectorized vest with a corresponding unique rider number for proper identification. (CEBU NEWS)
