CPPO reports P22.8 million total drug seized since January

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) reported a total of P22.8 million worth of illegal drugs confiscated from 335 police operations in the province since January this year.

CPPO director Police Col. Percival Zorilla reported their accomplishment in the campaign against illegal drugs during the joint meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) , Provincial Development Council (PDC), Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council, and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council at the Capitol yesterday.

Zorilla said that since January 1 to February 29, CPPO had arrested 458 individuals and confiscated 3,354.85 grams of shabu and 133 grams of dried marijuana leaves. CPPO also conducted 287 operations against illegal gambling resulting in the arrest of 432 people and confiscation of P73, 704 bet money.

For loose firearms, the police conducted 247 operations and implemented 23 search warrants for the same period resulting in the arrest of 81 people.

Zorilla said they have also intensified police visibility as crime prevention effort. This includes regular checkpoints and border control and patrolling. According to Zorilla, 656 out of the 1,066 barangays of the province have already been cleared from illegal drugs. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
