CEBU, Philippines — Senator Francis Tolentino in partnership with Mandaue City Lone District Representative Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon personally facilitated the distribution to 887 TUPAD beneficiaries in the city’s five barangays the other day.

TUPAD or Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers Program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), provides temporary employment and support to displaced workers.

The beneficiaries are from Barangay Paknaan consisting of 324 individuals; Ibabao, 197; Tipolo, 216; Cubacub, 50; and Tawason, 100 individuals.

Overall, all the beneficiaries received a total of P4.1 million.

The payout was done in VAMO Gym in Barangay Paknaan for the said barangay beneficiaries and other recipients in Ibabao Estancia Gym in the city.

Ouano-Dizon appreciated Tolentino for choosing Mandaue City residents as beneficiaries as she thanked DOLE for extending assistance to address the urgent needs of displaced workers in the said barangays.

Tolentino, in his speech during the activity, held Ouano-Dizon in high regards for taking extra efforts in seeking his office’s assistance for the benefit of Mandauehanons.

Tolentino stressed that the activity manifested the commitment of the government to address the needs of disadvantaged and displaced workers, giving them hope during struggling times.

TUPAD beneficiaries are engaged in community-based projects that address local needs, such as transport of goods, clean-up drives, and other public services.

TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed.

As of October 2023, DOLE-7 has already paid P851.6 million for the wages of around 184,558 TUPAD workers all over Central Visayas.
