Capitol exempts church from paying land rent

CEBU, Philippines — The Capitol has exempted a church from paying rent for its alleged encroachment on the land that the Province of Cebu has claimed ownership along Osmena Boulevard, Cebu City.

The province’s Economic Enterprise Council (EEC) has approved the request of the Cebu Gospel Church (CGC) asking for its exclusion in the payment to the Province of Cebu, especially that it is a non-profit organization.

The CGC, a Filipino-Chinese Church, is among the establishments that are said to have occupied a part of the parcel of land that the Capitol of Cebu claimed to be theirs.

According to the Capitol Information Office, Capitol's approval of the request showed Governor Gwendolyn Garcia’s support to the church community in Cebu.

The church, however, still needs to demolish some parts of their structure that is encroaching on the area belonging to the province.

The Capitol has been demanding charges from several establishments that are said to have occupied some parts of the reportedly Capitol-owned lots along Osmeña boulevard. — (FREEMAN)
