CEBU, Philippines — Residents in sitio Kalubihan, Forest Hills, Banawa in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City have expressed concern over an ongoing excavation for a cell site tower in their area.
These residents had sought assistance from Councilor Nestor Archival Sr. as they fear for their safety and health due to radiation from the cell site .
Aside from Archival, the affected residents have also sent a communication to Mayor Michael Rama, Guadalupe barangay captain Michael Gacasan, and Architect Florante Catalan concerning this matter.
The digging and project allegedly do not have a barangay clearance and did not undergo public hearing and ocular inspection.
Archival brought the matter to the City Council, paving the way for a dialogue with the identified contractor, Unity Digital Infrastructure, Incorporation via an executive session today, May 3, 2023.
A representative of the mayor, together with Catalan of the Office of the Building Official (OBO), and Gacasan are also expected to appear in today’s dialogue to hopefully help solve this concern.
Rama’s special assistant, Ramil Ayuman, recalled a similar incident in Barangay Apas when he was still the barangay captain in the area.
Ayuman said there were two cell sites at sitio Calvary Hills that they were able to stop from operations for health and safety concerns of the people. — GMR (FREEMAN)
