DOLE-7 doles out over P20 million to TUPAD workers in Mandaue

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Department of Labor and Employment has turned a total of P20.6 million to 4,726 beneficiaries of its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disasvantaged/Displaced Workers or (TUPAD) in Mandaue City.

Mandaue City Lone District Representative Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon led the ceremonial turnover.

Ouano Dizon, who facilitated the said program, said that the beneficiaries come from 22 barangays.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude sa DOLE kay wa nila pakyasa ang akong hangyo, kay daku kaayo kini og tabang sa mga nawad-an og trabaho,” Ouano-Dizon said during one of the payouts.

The lady legislator said that she tried her best effort to look for government funding to at least help uplift the lives of Mandauehanons.

“Naningkamot gyud ako nga bisan unsay available nga pundo sa bisan asang government agency atong ma-tap aron matabangan ang mas nanginahanglan,” she added.

DOLE’s TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers for a period of 10 days but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work performed.

Under this program, beneficiaries rendered 10-15 days of various community works in their respective barangays as they receive a daily wage rate based on the latest minimum wage order in the region.

Ouano-Dizon said she is supportive and lauded DOLE’s TUPAD program since it is “demand-driven” and have served the marginalized, vulnerable and under-privileged individuals like in Mandaue City.

TUPAD is one of the two components of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP), which is the Department’s contribution to the government’s agenda of inclusive growth through massive job generation and poverty reduction.

DOLE-7 earlier said that for the first six months of this year, it has already paid over P467 million in wages to TUPAD workers in the different provinces in Central Visayas

DOLE-7 added the said amount benefited around 112,128 TUPAD workers. — GMR (FREEMAN)
