CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government, through the Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO), is set to give recognition to partner agencies, organizations, institutions, among others that have given the city great support in its war against garbage.
Engr. Arleigh Gesta, head of CCENRO, said their goal is to acknowledge those who are helping maintain the cleanliness of the city.
Gesta said that they are yet to provide a financial incentive for this year, but they are hoping to be able to give such by next year when another round of recognition will be conducted.
He said that for now, the most important thing is to give enough recognition to those involved in keeping the city clean.
There are personnel from different institutions that were deputized by the CCENRO to be able to issue citation tickets to violators of littering and violators of anti-smoking, among others.
Gesta thanked the establishments that strictly implemented the placement of a suitable smoking area as well as the proper garbage disposal.
With this, they are showing and promoting cooperation with the administration in its vision of a Singapore-like Cebu City.
Currently, the Cebu Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Team (CESET), under CCENRO, is actively going around the city to apprehend those who indiscriminately throw their garbage, as well as those who spit, smoke, and urinate in improper places.
During the City Hall’s Panaghisgot Forum, Engr. JP “Poloy” Gelasque, assistant department head of the Department of Public Services (DPS), said that they are now strictly implementing the rule that the owners of the establishments must ensure the cleanliness of their respective surroundings or areas, especially within the five meters of their jurisdiction.
Gelasque hopes that the job of the enforcers will be respected because it is also for the benefit of the city. — GMR (FREEMAN)
