Capitol to accommodate more scholars

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu provincial government will cater to more scholars for its Cebu Province Grants Intended For Tertiary Students (CP-GIFS) program this school year.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan has passed an ordinance increasing the number of scholars to 200 per district, as well as the allocation of funds for the said scholarship program.

“There will be two hundred (200) scholars/grantees per district, one hundred (100) scholars/ grantees per ex-officio representation in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, and additional allocation from other sources” reads Provincial Ordinance number 2022-05

“Provided, that in districts with less than two hundred (200) qualified scholars, the excess shall be assigned to the other districts to complete the allocation” it added.

CP-GIFTS is a program by the Cebu Provincial Government granting educational assistance to poor but deserving students in Cebu Province.

The recently passed ordinance will be implemented for School Year 2022- 2023.  It was also approved and signed by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia on September 27.

In 2020, when the said scholarship program was rolled out, the Capitol had set 100 slots of scholars per district in the Province, where qualified students will be receiving P2,000 monthly allowance from the Capitol. — JMD (FREEMAN)
