CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City Police Office has asked the barangay officials to require apartment and boarding house owners to secure identification cards of their tenants.

CCPO deputy director for operations, Lt. Col. Wilbert Parilla, said he ordered his police station commanders to coordinate with the barangay captains while the city government has not yet passed an ordinance regarding matter.

Parilla stressed that such a policy has been in place in some barangays which adopted an ordinance requiring landlords to submit records of their .

The CCPO has suggested to Councilor Phillip Zafra who heads the committee on peace and order to make a citywide rule the policy requiring tenants to submit copy of identification card otherwise they are not allowed to rent an apartment or a boarding house.

Parilla said they will also propose to require renters to register themselves at the barangay where they are renting their rooms.

Parilla said this could help in tracing out of people who are entering the city.

“Kay ang atoang mga molupyo gyud resident nato sa Cebu City duna man tay records so ang kani sad ang atoa nga ang tanang mga molupyo to include students, kanang mga trabahante nga nagpuyo sa atong siyudad ato sad ma-monitor, so that is only proseso nga makahibawo ta pila gyud ang actual nga tawo nga naa sa atong siyduad,” Parilla explained.

Parilla said he was informed by some barangay captains that they already had an ordinance on the matter.

“Even sa katong sa programa sa atoang City Director nga pakighinabi sa mga barangay officials, barangay captains nga under sa every police stations usa ni sa iyahang gi-recommend, usa ni sa atoang natuki to have daily review kung kinsa ang namuyo sa barangay they should include sa mga renters,” he said.

By this mean, Parilla said, would help minimize crimes and illegal activities in the city. — Banat News, GMR (FREEMAN)
