CEBU, Philippines — Former defense secretary Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro has disclosed that he is running again for senator in 2025 after failing his bid in the 2022 senatorial elections.
Teodoro cited that he only campaigned for about eight months prior to the May 9, 2022 elections.
“It’s a late decision but we can do it again in 2025 which is open for senators. So, we will do it again,” said Teodoro, in an ambush interview during his post-birthday and thanksgiving party on Friday at the Cebu White Sands Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City.
Teodoro said it is not important to him to land as the number one senator in the 2025 senatorial race, but what is important is that he will make it to the top 12.
“Hindi naman importante ang number one, ako nga number one sa bar exams hindi naman ako nag-practice,” Teodoro added.
Vice President-elect Sara Duterte, who graced the twin celebration, wished Teodoro good health and happiness now and in the next 50 years.
“I am looking forward to working with you in government and outside of government,” said Duterte, an ally of Teodoro.
Both are officials of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats.
Teodoro’s wife, Nikki also thanked all her husband’s supporters who strongly believed in him.
“I thought Gilbert is not going back to politics but I think now Gilbert can stay in politics, so we really need your help. With all your help, I think Gilbert really should be back in politics because he can make a big difference,” said the wife adding in jest, “no politics tonight but Gibo politics 2025”.
Teodoro landed on the 15th spot with 12,574,754 votes, which he considered as his base. Tedoro also lost in his presidential bid in 2010.
Teodoro likewise thanked all his supporters and hopes to get more in the 2025 elections.
