4 nabbed for “tigbakay” in Daanbantayan town
CEBU, Philippines — At least four individuals were arrested for illegal cockfighting commonly known as 'tigbakay' on Sunday, November 22, 2020 in Daanbantayan town in northern Cebu.
Daanbantayan Police Station chief Police Captain Ian Macatangay identified the suspects as Leonide Santuele; Panfilo Broñola; Marcial Diamos; and Rodrigo Abad. Two other suspects eluded arrest.
Confiscated from their possessions were two fighting cocks with gaff attached and cash amounting to P540 believed to be their bets.
Macatangay said they are already preparing appropriate charges to be filed against the arrested individuals. Those who eluded arrest will also face criminal complaints before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor.
Meanwhile, Police Regional Office Director Albert Ignatius Ferro said the two police personnel accused of holding an illegal cockfighting in a mountain barangay of Liloan last Saturday will face an investigation.
Ferro vowed that disciplinary measures will be applied against them.
"Katong duha ka police nga na-involve sa tigbakay, they will be subject to disciplinary measures which is dismissal from the service," said Ferro.
The two police officers allegedly eluded arrest when operatives of the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU) raided the illegal cockfighting event in Barangay Lataban, Liloan on November 21.
Earlier, PIU chief Lt. Col. Randy Korret said they have already identified the two police officers and will be facing charges along with the 11 individuals they have arrested during the raid. — FPL (FREEMAN)
