CEBU, Philippines — Motorists were compliant with the number coding scheme for vehicles as observed on the second day of its implementation, a Cebu City police official said.
Police Colonel Josefino Ligan, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) director, said the motorists were cooperative based on the lesser volume of vehicles plying the city’s streets yesterday.
“Masinundanon man atong nga motorista, then gamay na pud ang mga sakyanan sa kadalanan," he said.
He said though there were several motorists apprehended for violating the scheme. The exact number of violators is still being collated.
But he said the number of apprehensions was lower compared to 45 motorists arrested on Monday, the first day of implementation.
The motorists were informed about the number coding scheme during checkpoints and at the borders, he added.
The new regulation was implemented in Cebu City to regulate the number of vehicles on the roads and to prevent the further spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Cebu City remains as the epicenter of COVID-19 in Central Visayas with over 170 cases as of yesterday.
Based on Mayor Edgardo Labella’s executive order, vehicles with license plates that end in 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 may go out on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Those with license plates ending in 2, 4, 6, 8, 0 can travel on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
On Sundays, no vehicles are allowed on the streets of the city. KQD (FREEMAN)
