CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government may now proceed with the construction of a drainage system at Sitio Amor, Barangay Sambag 1 after the University of Cebu allowed the use of its property for the project.
Lawyer Augusto Go, UC president, allowed the project to pass through the lots owned by the school at J. Alcantara Street.
Mayor Edgardo Labella earlier sought the help of Go to allow the city project on the property his university owned. The mayor said that flooding in the area has been a prevalent concern by the residents in the area.
In fact, the residents had already sought help from the past administration but the problem remains unsolved until now. The residents in the area started requesting for a lasting solution to the problem in December 2016. Another request was sent by the residents to the Office of the Building Official on September 5, 2017.
City Legal Officer Rey Gealon said he recommended to the mayor to negotiate with Go considering that they both want what is best for the people of the city.
“The Mayor is delighted that Atty. Augusto Go allowed the drainage project to be implemented, passing through his Sambag-1 property,” said Gealon.
Gealon also shared that the drainage project is seen to mitigate flooding in the neighboring areas. (FREEMAN)
