CEBU, Philippines — Preschool and elementary public school students in the province are to expect slippers from the Cebu provincial government.

In an interview, Governor Gwen Garcia said that she has talked with Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) Federation President Isabelo Montejo on the distribution of slippers to kindergarten and grade school students in the province.

“I have tasked the PTA Federation, when they came here – when they took their oath – to look into the… the program of providing slippers for all of our kindergarten and elementary students,” Garcia said.

She added that the data on the population of students and their corresponding shoe sizes have already been collated by the PTA Federation. Along with the slippers, preschool and elementary students will also be receiving notebooks, bags and other school supplies.

The high school students, for their part, will receive school supplies from the province.

This plan, along with the data from the PTA Federation, will be presented by Garcia on the December 13, 2019 Provincial School Board Meeting so that budget may be appropriated for the project.

Aside from this, the governor said she has requested the PTA Federation to look into the possibility of working with PTAs of each school and linking with the local government units for the launching of feeding programs for the students of Cebu.

“Ang uban intawn diha, labi na sa bukid, moadto sa eskwelahan kutoy pa ang tiyan. Maayo unta bisan man lang naa sa eskwelahan naa silay makaon,” she said.

The provincial government, Garcia said, will also be looking into helping with the teaching aids for public school teachers. She noted the meager allowance provided for teachers for their teaching supplies.

“Let us utilize our resources in a manner that would bring the most benefit to those that need it the most, in this case: ang atong mga estudyante ug atong mga teachers,” Garcia said.  GAN (FREEMAN)
