CEBU, Philippines — Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. will now abide by the no-crossing scheme imposed by the Province of Cebu for its trucks during peak hours.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia disclosed in an interview that during yesterday's talk with the cement company, both parties have agreed to cease the operations of Taiheiyo's trucks during peak hours—7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.--to avoid traffic buildup in the area.
Garcia said that trucks crossing the national highway into the compound of the cement factory contribute to the traffic problem in San Fernando because vehicles have to wait between intervals to pass through.
Representatives of Taiheiyo reportedly committed to implement the governor's suggestion. However, they asked for time to inform their clients of the possible changes in schedules to be brought upon by the no-crossing scheme.
The no crossing scheme during peak hours is set to be implemented starting December 1.
“I took their word for it… they committed to that," Garcia said.
It can also be recalled that the same scheme was adopted by CEMEX after meeting with the governor last September.
Garcia said that with the anticipated heavier traffic that comes with the month of December, she is looking into adding an additional zero crossing time slot.
“There is a probability nga… perhaps we may add, if only for the holiday season, a certain time slot kung mahimo zero crossing gihapon para di maka impede sa traffic,” Garcia said.
“We are also sending our people to study the traffic flow,” she added. FPL (FREEMAN)
