Radaza: Don’t light fireworks near house

Christell Fatima M. Tudtud - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  For those who are planning to light their fireworks and pyrotechnics tomorrow, the Lapu-Lapu City Government has reminded the public not to light these items near their houses for safety purposes.

Mayor Paz Radaza said setting up fireworks near their houses is risky and can be the cause of fire.

“Dili sila pwede sa balay. We will be strict on this kay sila sad ang ma problema,” Radaza said.

They have common areas for fireworks and pyrotechnics, as the barangays got permits from the City Hall for this activity, according to the mayor.  There are some barangays who have secured more than two permits because their areas are large.

Radaza, however, assured that the barangay staff or personnel would be monitoring the fireworks activity.

If there are barangays who cannot secure a permit due to a limited time, Radaza said they urge the barangay officials to follow it up with the city.

“Atoa man na gipafollow-up nila. Atong gi-limit na og maayo and the barangay is helping us kung asa sila magpabuto (as long as dili sa ilahang balay),” she said.

Having common areas for fireworks and pyrotechnics display is another way to inform the Lapu-Lapu City Fire District in case there are untoward incidents and it will be quick for them to respond to it.

“Ang purpose man gud ani (common areas) kay ang fire district makahibaw sa mga areas nila,” Radaza added

Following the recent confiscation of items illegally sold in Barangay Babag, Radaza thanked the police for their swift action because this act is strictly prohibited by the government.

These items were recently destroyed by the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office by submerging them under water.

“Naa man gyud tawo mosuway og palusot,” Radaza said, adding that the police are continuously monitoring the display areas in the said barangay until the New Year’s celebration will end.

Radaza urged the city residents to safely celebrate the coming new year and to coordinate and report to their barangay officials if there are incidents that will occur in their place.

“Dili lang ni nato sayunon kung dunay panghitabo, mag problema unya ta. Para malinawon, safe ang katawhan, just observe lang sa insakto (balaod),” she said. — GAN (FREEMAN)
